Don’t Let Council’s Strategy Waste Away

Circular Head Council recently approved the draft Waste Strategy 2019-2024 for public consultation.

Council’s draft Waste Strategy aims to divert 50% of waste from landfill by 2024 and seeks to continuously improve the way Council manages waste.

According to Circular Head Mayor Daryl Quilliam, “Council are committed to improving the way we manage waste and looking for progressive and affordable ways to minimise waste to landfill.”

Council’s objective is to grow a sustainable community through initiatives which encourage excess material to be seen as a resource to be conserved, re-used and recycled, rather than sent as waste to landfill.

“The way we manage waste individually, as families and as businesses will impact on how successful the strategy is. That’s why it would be great for the community to tell us what they think about the strategy,” said Mayor Quilliam.

Key actions in the draft strategy include the investigation of a ‘tip shop’ to encourage reuse of items, looking at the feasibility of kerbside collection of organics (food and garden waste) and a review of the tip ticket system.

To view the strategy, please visit the or call into the Council office from 8:15am to 5pm weekdays.
